Spike Tech

Spike Devil now offers two very different Spike solutions! AUTO-SPIKE formerly know as Spike Devil is our accordion type spike system.

Spike belt is our multi sided spike system, which uses STRIPS that are housed inside a deployment sleeve. The above illustration shows our accordion systems from 9 foot up to 21.5 foot versions. We also show our Spike Belt sleeve loaded with multiple 3 foot strips. We show A 9, 12, 15 and 18 foot versions.

Our Accordion systems cover a much wider portion of the roadway, yet fold up and fit the bag of a motorcycle. Accordion systems also work on off – road surfaces. The Strip and base support the spike on softer surfaces. Accordion systems are durable and most often the only service needed is the replacement of the spikes.

The Leading Triangle system became popular because of the ability for any officer to simply throw the system into traffic and have the spikes pointing up. The system was marketed as requiring less training and skill than the Accordion version of Spikes. In addition the company marketed the system as cut proof, not required service, but simple replacements with new parts. Agencies are willing to pay the price of replacements of throw away parts. The concept sounds good, but it has some issues we will present, and our solutions in our new design.

Multi-sided Spike systems have Spikes with points on both sides. These systems depend on a hard surface to push the spike into the tire.

Multi-sided systems can not work on soft road surfaces.

Accordion systems require a training class and some skill to deploy, the key is to slide the system, we recommend the officer lowers the system and deploys slightly above the road surface. In a world where we have officers of many different skills and sizes, many departments select the multi-sided system based on this one fact.

Deployment, Which system is better?

In our tabs labeled Deployment we take a close look at the pro and cons of both systems. We give you things to consider in selecting which style or maybe both are best for your agency.
